Description

Dark matter has only been observed through gravitational interactions. It is an open question whether dark matter can interact in other ways with standard model particles. For the past three decades, the “WIMP miracle” idea, that thermal relic dark matter particles could also participate in electroweak interactions, has guided the design of many detection experiments. Recent negative results from direct detection experiments and the LHC have put pressure on the existence of WIMPs. I will discuss two scenarios where WIMP-like particles carry an additional strong interaction which confines them into electroweak neutral composites, enabling them to so far evade detection.
