The COSINE-100 experiment aims to test DAMA’s claim of WIMP discovery. Using 100 kg of low background NaI(Tl) crystals and 2 tons of active liquid scintillator veto, COSINE-100 will be able to achieve the necessary sensitivity to address DAMA’s claim in 2 years of data. The signature signal one looks for in such detectors is an annual modulation in the signal rate. In order to detect that, one must understand the background of the detector, specially in the region of interest, 1-20 keV. I will present on the current status of COSINE-100, and discuss the efforts on understanding and accounting for the most important background sources of the experiment through simulations.
