Nuclear Particle Astrophysics (NPA) Seminar: Chang Kee Jung, State University of NY (SUNY) at Stony Brook, “Pursuit of CP Violation in the Lepton Sector: Recent T2K Results, Current Landscape and Future”

Description

Since the Super-Kamiokande discovery of neutrino oscillation in the atmospheric neutrinos in 1998, there have been remarkable advancements in our understanding of the neutrino oscillation phenomena and neutrino mixing.

We now have mostly complete picture of the PMNS matrix. However, a few questions remain, notably CP Violation (CPV) in the lepton sector. Experimental observation of CPV could provide a crucial clue to the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe, which is one of the most outstanding mysteries in science. In this regard, recent T2K results show an intriguing initial hint of CPV.

In this talk I will describe recent T2K neutrino oscillation analysis results in some detail, and present the current landscape of the field in pursuit of leptonic CPV and future prospects.

Coffee and snacks with speaker for postdocs and students will be held from 3:30 - 4:30 in WL-210.
